Post her MFW SS18 show, it’s not a wonder that heaps of media were desperately clutching at Miuccia Prada’s first statement on the show.
Plainly put, the collection was Eclectic, Powerful and Fierce. In a more complicated way, the current feminism movement plastered on shirts as slogans, was deeply embedded into the fabric of the Prada SS18 show.
Based on the style of the collection, the “rude boy” as per Rihanna’s song, might just as well be the Prada woman. It’s almost as though a men’s collection was re-tailored and elevated to a woman’s figure in the most eccentric and stylish way possible: Pinstripe shirting and classic trousers topped with puffy floral dresses, bustier and satin sandals with a combat touch, animal prints, knee high socks and pointy shoes. No sign of heels. Insanely dangerous and alluring, like Power itself.
Practically, a new uniform of quirky, funky, and combat spirit ready to diminish the typical “female” stereotype of a woman’s role. Inspired by comic book heroins of the past, ‘from good ones to bad ones, the beautiful and not-so-beautiful,’ it is empowering!
Remember the rebel cool kid in school that did’t have a care about rules, but everyone wanted to secretly be friends with? That’s the Prada girls of the SS18.
